The collection consists of four letters. The first letter is written by James' father, William Woodbridge of Hartford, CT, on 24 May 1824, to his son at the American Literary, Scientific and Military Academy (Norwich University) in Norwich, VT. The last letter in the collection is also from William Woodbridge in Hartford to his son James at the Academy in Middletown, 27 April 1827, in which he expresses his wish to have his son pay the family a visit at election time.
